A leading Construction Management organisation has an immediate vacancy for a Senior Estimator in London

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure all necessary tender documentation has been received and acknowledged.

• Distribute the documentation to all necessary internal and external parties.

• Set up, notify, chair and distribute the tender launch meeting with all necessary parties in attendance and action any further requirements.

• Copy all preliminaries, contract, legal and other necessary documentation to the Risk Manager.

• Asses the project insurance criteria, and if the project value is over £30 million, obtain a project specific insurance cost

• Acknowledge and action any tender amendments.

• Prepare quantities for tender estimates and cost plans if required.

• Review and prepare as necessary any cost plan requirements, either commenting on existing, or preparing new from scratch including market testing.

• Agree subcontractor package strategy including scope, names, documents and return dates.

• Contact the proposed subcontractors and “warm up”.

• Mark up, copy and send out subcontractor enquiries.

• Ensure subcontractors have received documentation and will be submitting a quotation.

• Deal with any queries from the subcontractors or if applicable the design team.

• Enter and resource the pricing documents onto the estimating system.

• Price the tender documents (bills of quantities, schedules etc) including prime cost and provisional sums, daywork’s and contingencies where applicable.

• Price any alternative solutions and value engineering options.

• Price all necessary design and professional fees applicable to the project.

• Price the project preliminaries.

• Price any necessary risk or design development that maybe applicable.

• Price any inflation allowances that maybe necessary.

• Price a provisional OH&P figure to be discussed at the tender settlement meeting.

• Collate the tender settlement booklet, including tender notes and clarifications.

• Set up, notify and arrange the tender settlement meeting with the Heads and any other necessary attendees.

• Revise the tender settlement booklet after the tender settlement meeting incorporating any amendments and changes and ensure the submission is signed off by the Managing Director.

 

Job Profile

• Ensure all Forms of Tender are completed and signed.

• Ensure all other necessary commercial submission documents are completed for inclusion within the tender submission.

• Prepare a tender submission letter for approval.

• Arrange and confirm the delivery of the tender submission documents to the relative parties.

• Contact the client or relevant member of the professional team to see if the tender is under consideration.

• Ensure any post tender submission actions are undertaken, including the necessary level of approval for resubmission.

• Attend any post tender submission interviews or presentations.

• Archive tender documentation if unsuccessful.

• Ensure the project team has all the necessary tender documentation if successful.

Education:

Essential

ONC/HNC or equivalent in a construction related subject.

 

Desirable

• Degree or equivalent in a construction related subject.

• Membership of RICS or CIOB.

 

Skills & Person Specification:

• Experience in single stage tenders.

• Experience in two stage tenders.

• Experience in the preparation of, or commenting on third party cost plans.

• Experience in both traditional and design and build tenders.

• Ability to “take off” and produce Bills of Quantities.

• Work with no or little supervision.

• Undertake the role of Bid Leader if necessary.

• Have the capacity and confidence to attend client and professional team meetings and presentations.

• Have a sound technical knowledge of the construction process.

• Have a basic knowledge of the JCT/NEC/GC Works forms of contract.

• To be able to either lead or liaise with other members of the team both internally and externally.

• To be an effective communicator, both written and verbal.

• To be dynamic, self motivating, diligent, accurate and opinionated.

• To be able to work to tight deadlines and deal with short tendering periods.

• To have a “can do” approach and react to client requests immediately.

• To have experience of the London and South East tendering market.

• To have experience in the following sectors:-
