Director of Civil Engineering Job Description:

The Civil Engineering Division in East Grinstead is a 100-strong body of designers from a number of engineering disciplines. They work on a range of client-side appointments as well as contractor-led design appointments for small schemes through to major projects with fees in excess of £5m. Recent projects, many of which have been recognized with Industry Awards include Crossrail Portals, Immersed Tunnel Engineering in USA, Ireland and UK, Hard Rock tunnels through the Italian Alps, Tunnel and Embankment Engineering for London Underground and Network Rail projects and a number of major highway projects across the UK.

An opportunity now exists for a delivery-focussed individual to join the team to develop new opportunities in growth sectors in UK and internationally, building upon the existing skills and capabilities within the team.

Requirements:

You will have an established track record in leading and delivering engineering design solutions in the UK and internationally in heavy civil engineering projects on both client-side as well as contractor-led design appointments. You will be able to lead, direct and motivate multi-disciplinary engineering teams to achieve a common delivery objective, integrating with the contractor-clients as required. You will have an advanced understanding of the design: build interface and be able to identify and manage the key drivers of project success.

Responsibilities:

Reporting directly into the Director of Engineering & Transportation, you will be responsible, with your senior staff reports, for identifying and securing project opportunities to secure the turnover and deliver profitability. You will have overall responsibility for leading and motivating the team and for directing the operations and project delivery.

Established delivery skills

Strong contacts within the civil engineering sector in UK and internationally

Business development skills founded upon your proven ability to deliver excellence to your clients

Established reputation within the heavy civil engineering sector, probably in transport-related infrastructure (road, rail, tunnels)

Ideally you will have experience of delivering the design for heavy civil engineering projects within the energy sector, including the nuclear design sector
