The Civil Engineering Division of our Client a Multi-discipline Construction & Engineering Consultancy had a current requirement for a Geotechnical Team leader to be based at their office in East Grinstead.

The office is a 100-strong body of designers from a number of engineering disciplines. They work on a range of client-side appointments as well as contractor-led design appointments for small schemes through to major projects with fees in excess of £5m. Recent projects, many of which have been recognized with Industry Awards include Crossrail Portals, Immersed Tunnel Engineering in USA, Ireland and UK, Hard Rock tunnels through the Italian Alps, Tunnel and Embankment Engineering for London Underground and Network Rail projects and a number of major highway projects across the UK.

The Geotechnical Engineering team in East Grinstead are an integral part of the Civil Engineering Division, delivering geotechnical and foundation engineering solutions for the Civil Engineering Division as well as providing expert support for other Divisions within the Group. The Team also identify and secure specialist commissions in their own right.

A career opportunity exists for an Associate Director with an excellent technical background in geotechnical engineering to be appointed to lead this established Team in our East Grinstead office.With significant post graduate experience the candidate will have experience in identifying and securing project opportunities and in managing the delivery of geotechnical engineering solutions.

Responsibilities:

The role encompasses two main responsibilities:

Team Leadership: The Candidate will be expected to manage, develop and grow the existing geotechnical team to include resource and workload management, recruitment of new staff to strengthen our skills, staff development and performance management.

Business Development: The considerable expertise of the existing team is currently focussed on delivering solutions for a range of business units within the business. The Candidate will be expected to market the team more widely internally as well as promote and secure project opportunities with existing and new external clients. In addition the Candidate will support larger in-house teams bidding for major projects.

Experience:

Essential

  • Significant relevant post graduate experience
  • Proven business development skills and client relationship skills
  • Strong team leadership and team management skills
  • Good understanding of geotechnical design principles
  • Experience in project managing the delivery of geotechnical engineering solutions

Desirable

  • Working with contractors on major Design and Build projects

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Civil Engineering or Ground Engineering related Degree, to BSc or BEng level minimum,.

Chartered or member of a relevant professional organisation

Desirable

  • MEng / MSc in a ground engineering related discipline
  • Clean UK driving licence

Interpersonal Skills:

Essential

  • Team leadership skills focussed on motivation and performance management
  • Client relationship management and account management

Good communicator at all levels, both verbally and in writing

Desirable

  • Ability to identify, develop and exploit new opportunities and relationships
  • Willingness to promote the excellent geotechnical skills base
  • Proficient in discussing technical issues in non-technical language.
