Job Title: Mechanical Building Services Engineer (or Graduate)

Reporting to: Senior Engineer/Principal Engineer

Main Purpose of Job:

Proactively working as part of our team to engage fully with our Clients and other stakeholders, you will be responsible for the design of building services on a range of projects. Whilst you will be capable of working with some supervision, you will work collaboratively with all levels within our team contributing to the overall project success. You will provide support to our senior management team and regularly report on progress. You will be capable of working collaboratively within a team of engineers and technicians delivering minor and major projects successfully.

Scope of Job:

You will liaise with senior engineers and principal engineers in your team to understand the building services strategy to be designed for a particular project. You will assist in the preparation of design reports, feasibility studies, specifications and design drawings.

You will liaise with: Architects, quantity surveyors, clients, professionals, construction engineers, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors or installers concerning all areas relevant to our project appointment.

You will take a role in completing design activities to a defined programme, with assistance where necessary using our in-house systems.

Qualifications:

Degree educated, or equivalent, in a relevant course (E)
MEng or MSc qualified (D)

From graduation plus 2 years until
i) Chartered (when progression to Senior Engineer status will be reviewed)
or
ii) (in exceptional cases) until an Engineer excels to the point where he is regarded as a senior engineer not yet having achieved chartered status.

Business Development:

Begin to make contacts with clients/other design team members and build relationships which may prosper in the future.

Project Role:

Role will normally be a Design Engineer on projects responsible to Associate or SE but occasionally as Project Engineer on small/less complex projects.
Be familiar with agreed fees/scope of services/programme.
Manage project resources/programme.
Attend design team/site meetings.
Liaise and correspond day to day with design team/contractor.
Supervise office filing system set-up.
Receive all project correspondence.
Implement project QA policy and CDM requirements.

Design Engineers
Responsible for setting-up and maintaining job filing system to office standard.
Understand design philosophy/design fundamentals.
Familiar with architects/service engineers/etc. drawings, specification.
Development of details.
Production of calculations.
Co-ordination with architect/service engineer information.
Attend team/job meetings to discuss progress/deadlines/detail design issues.
Implement QA policy and CDM requirements.

Engineering Function:

Produce drawing list/calculation index/specification list/information required schedule.
Produce design philosophy
Responsible for development and production of drawings/calculations/specification/reports.
Check drawings/review calculations from Graduate Engineers.

Duties and Key Responsibilities: (E = essential, D = desirable)

• Experience in the use of Autocad.(E)
• Experience in design software, commitment to develop IES and Revit MEP skills (E)
• Experience in the use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint.(E)
• Ability to make project presentations to upper management.(D)
• Ability to coordinate with a variety of clientele.(E)
• Ability to accomplish design and construction changes during progress of the construction contract (D)
